New versions of the virus after undergoing mutation are called “variants”.
According to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (Malaysia Health director-general), 3 variants have been discovered in Malaysia
B.1.617.1 (first detected in India)
B.1.351 (found first in South Africa)
B.1.1.7 (originally identified in the UK)
